Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported on Tuesday that the number of fatalities from floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra has risen to 659 people, with 475 others still missing as of midday on Tuesday.According to BNPB data published on its official website, at least 2,600 people have been injured in the disaster, while the total number of residents affected across the three provinces has reached 3.2 million.Flash floods and landslides devastated around 50 districts and cities in the region, leaving thousands of homes severely damaged after extreme weather struck last week.Earlier, the Aceh Provincial Government, through the Aceh Hydrometeorological Disaster Emergency Command Post, confirmed a rising death toll in the province. As of 00:52 on Tuesday, 173 people had been confirmed dead in Aceh alone.
“That is the latest temporary data we received: 173 fatalities caused by floods and landslides in Aceh,” said M. Nasir, Head of the Aceh Emergency Response Post.Meanwhile, data from the Pusdalops BPBD North Sumatra indicates worsening impacts of flooding, landslides, and extreme weather in the province. As of 08:00 WIB on Tuesday, 1,669,996 residents across 17 districts/cities have been affected, with 290 deaths and 154 people still missing.“Updated data shows 290 people have died, 538,792 residents have been injured, and 135,267 others have been forced to evacuate to emergency shelters in various areas,” said Sri Wahyuni Pancasilawati, Head of Emergency Response, Equipment, and Logistics at BPBD North Sumatra.Authorities continue search and rescue operations across the devastated areas, with emergency teams, volunteers, and local communities working to locate missing persons and support displaced residents.
