FIRE crews from across Somerset attended an incident which saw a large fire break out at a block of flats - forcing crews to evacuate the area.At around 6:50pm on Wednesday, December 3, fire crews from across the county attended an incident at a property on Marigold Road in Frome, Somerset.Following the breakout, the building's roof partially collapsed, but no one was seriously injured, crews have confirmed.
One individual, who lives in this block of flats, did suffer from smoke inhalation and was given oxygen therapy by fire crews before the duty of care was handed over to ambulance paramedics.Lots of the people affected by this fire outbreak have been moved into temporary accommodation after severe fire, smoke, and water damage to the building, the fire service confirmed.Initially, three fire engines from Frome, Westbury and Trowbridge were sent to the flats, where smoke and flames were seen issuing from a top floor flat, the fire service said.
This incident was dealt with by both the Devon and Somerset and Wiltshire Fire Rescue Services - a decision was made by fire control to also mobilise the aerial ladder platform from Yeovil should any occupants have been unable to evacuate.A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Crews made good and steady progress, bringing the fire under control and confirming that all persons were able to evacuate and were accounted for."The fire, the cause of which is still under investigation, originated in a second-floor flat and was extinguished."The integrity of the building was compromised due to a partial roof collapse."The scene has now been handed over to police, but further fire investigation will recommence in daylight hours by both our fire investigation officer and police crime scene investigators."Local authority housing association representatives attended to assist with rehoming occupants due to extensive fire, smoke and water damage, as well as the structural integrity. Utility companies also attended to isolate both gas and electricity."In total, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue deployed fire crews from four stations on the night. This included crews from the following stations: Street, Yeovil, Frome, and Wells. The fire was extinguished around 2:26am on December 4.
