A mobile phone battery exploded in a school dormitory in southeastern Poland early on Thursday, sending eight teenagers to hospital and forcing the evacuation of the building, local fire services and media reported.The blast occurred before 1 a.m. local time (0000 GMT) in the town of Ropczyce. According to a fire service officer, the phone exploded while being used by a 16-year-old boy, injuring his hands.
Smoke filled the building following the explosion, prompting the evacuation of all residents. Seven other teenagers reported feeling unwell and were taken to hospital along with the injured boy, the officer told local press.Firefighters ventilated the dormitory. After confirming no further danger, they allowed nearly all evacuated students to return to their rooms.Local authorities said an investigation into the incident is ongoing.No fire resulted from the blast, officials confirmed. ■
