A passenger ship carrying 137 people struck a bridge on the Main–Danube Canal in the southern German state of Bavaria, according to police.Police said the crash happened late on Friday evening as the ship was about to enter a lock near the town of Dietfurt in the Neumarkt district, about 70 kilometres south-east of Nuremberg.
Police said the wheelhouse had not been lowered enough and collided with the bridge, causing substantial damage.The crew and all 137 passengers were unharmed.Police estimated the damage to be in the upper five-figure range.The vessel has been barred from continuing its journey for the time being, a police spokesman said.
