Five people were shot and killed at a taxi rank in Ceres in the Western Cape on Tuesday morning, 8 June. The South African Police Service (SAPS) believe the incident may be related to industry violence.

FIVE KILLED AT CERES TAXI RANK
Detectives from the Western Cape taxi task team are combing the scene for evidence and clues following a shooting incident at the taxi rank in Vredebed on Tuesday morning at 7:00. According to SAPS Western Cape spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa, reports from the crime scene indicate that three yet-to-be-identified suspects wildly fired shots at vehicles at the transport hub shortly after 7:00. A man was seriously wounded and succumbed to his injuries at hospital, while four other people died at the scene. “The identities of the deceased are yet to be released. Indications are that the shooting incident is taxi conflict related,” said Potelwa. Members of the public with information that can assist the police in their investigation are encouraged to get in contact via 08600-10111.
