A 20-door longhouse, Rumah James in Sungai Semanok, along the Bintulu-Kuala Tatau coastal road, was completely destroyed in a fire today.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the emergency call was received at 11.41am and firefighters from the Tatau fire station was immediately dispatched to the scene, located approximately 29 kilometres away, with assistance from the Bintulu fire station.
“Upon arrival at 12.05pm, the operation commander reported that the longhouse had already been engulfed and was burned 100 per cent,” it said.
Firefighters carried out extinguishing operations utilising the fire engine pump and a nearby open water source (drain).
Several vehicles were also reported to have been destroyed in the fire.
The firefighting operation was ongoing at the time of reporting.
No casualties have been reported so far.
