A 62-year-old man was found dead after he was believed to have been attacked by a crocodile while bathing in a river at Kampung Bakong-Bakong Sapi, Beluran on Sunday.
According to a Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson, the victim had gone to bathe alone in Sungai Trusan Sapi around 8pm but did not return home, prompting family members and villagers to search for him.
The department received the call at 10.19am on Monday, and two firefighters rushed to the scene, around 74 kilometres away, with assistance from the police.
The search was joined by villagers who used boats to comb the river within a one-kilometre radius from where the victim was last seen.
“He was later found by villagers in an incomplete state about 10 metres from the spot where he was reported missing.
“The deceased, a Malaysian, was confirmed dead at the scene.
“His body was handed over to the police for further action,” said the spokesperson in a statement.
