An outbreak of bird flu has been confirmed at a large duck farm in Valdíkov near Třebíč (Vysočina Region. More than 20,000 ducks will be culled—18,000 young ducklings and about 2,500 fully grown birds. The culling will begin on Wednesday morning. The infection was discovered after ducks from the farm were sent to an abattoir in Mirovice, South Bohemia, where tests revealed the virus. About 50 tons of poultry meat will be destroyed, but authorities say there is no risk to consumers. Protective zones have been declared, and strict veterinary measures are in force.
