A man of approximately 35 years old was shot and killed inside a Tulum restaurant Monday. The afternoon shooting happened when an armed man walked into the restaurant in the municipality’s hotel zone and shot him.
According to initial reports, the victim sustained at least three gunshot wounds. Paramedics who confirmed his death at the scene found one bullet wound to the left side of his back, another to the chest and one to the abdomen.
Witnesses reported seeing a man dressed in black walk in and shoot him at point-blank range before running out of the restaurant. The shooting does not appear to be random, but was targeted.
Police arrived to collect evidence and begin a search for the lone gunman, however, arrests have not been announced. There are unofficial reports that the deceased man, who has not been named, was known locally as a drug dealer.
In September of 2021, a shooting inside the same Tulum restaurant left two dead and one injured. The SSC (Secretaría de Seguridad Pública y Protección Ciudadana) of Tulum has not made a public statement regarding the fatal attack.
