Evacuations are underway and about 2,000 people were without power after a work truck crashed into utility poles in west Phoenix on Tuesday, according to authorities.
The crash, which involved a Salt River Project (SRP) truck, happened near 36th and Butler drives, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.
The truck crashed into nine utility poles, knocking out power and affecting the function of the traffic light at 35th Avenue and Butler Drive.
The incident knocked out power to more than 2,100 SRP customers early in the afternoon on Tuesday, but by 12:45 p.m., that number was down to just 34 customers, according to the SRP outage map.
SRP said that crews will be working in the area until power is restored to all customers.
The Phoenix Fire Department Captain Scott Douglas added that people in the area of the crash were evacuated “for precautionary measures” and that entry into the area is being denied for the time being.
No injuries were reported.
