An oil tanker overturned near Nooriabad, Karachi, on the M-9 superhighway, disrupting traffic flow on Friday morning. The accident caused a large oil spill, leading to heavy delays in both directions.
The spillage of oil caused the road to become slippery, resulting in significantly reduced vehicle speeds. The track was fully restored for traffic by the South Zone National Highways and Motorways Police (NHMP).
According to the spokesperson, there have been no reports of casualties or injuries from the incident.
Upon receiving reports, the National Highways and Motorways Police arrived at the scene. The police regulated the traffic, safely diverting vehicles.
According to rescue authorities, the overturned tanker was righted with the help of heavy machinery, and efforts to clean the spilled oil are ongoing. Officers spread soil over the spilled oil to absorb it and dry the road.
The motorway police spokesperson stated that traffic near Nooriabad has now been fully restored and that they are always prepared to handle any emergencies.
In December 2024, a trailer had hit an oil tanker from behind on the Native Jetty bridge. As a result, the oil in the tanker spilled, making the road dangerously slippery. The traffic police and other squads of law enforcement agencies reached the scene and closed the road for all vehicular traffic.
