At least six Bangladeshi Army peacekeepers were killed and eight others injured after terrorists attacked a United Nations peacekeeping camp in Sudan’s Abyei region. The area is currently experiencing ongoing conflict, according to officials.
Around 10pm the attackers launched a sudden assault on the UN camp, triggering intense gunfire inside and around the facility, resulting in casualties among the Bangladeshi contingent, according to the Inter Services Public Relation Directorate (ISPR) on Saturday.
ISPR said the injured peacekeepers were receiving immediate medical care and their condition were being closely monitored. Measures were taken in coordination with other units of the UN peacekeeping mission to bring the situation under control.
Officials added that, considering the overall security situation in Abyei, the safety of the Bangladeshi contingent had been reinforced, and the situation was under continuous observation.
