Sofia Municipality announced that, starting at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, it has decided to temporarily close the two main roads leading to Vitosha Mountain in the directions of Aleko and Zlatnite Mostove, in order to ensure public safety. The decision is a preventive measure taken because of a real risk to traffic safety and to people staying in the mountain, due to exceptionally strong wind gusts.Sofia Municipality is urging tourists to exercise extreme caution, to refrain from traveling to Vitosha, and to strictly comply with the imposed restrictions and the instructions of the competent authorities. To ensure the safe return of tourists who are already in the mountain, the following public transport services will operate in the afternoon:
Bus line 66 (from Aleko): 4:00 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 5:00 p.m.
Bus line 61 (from Zlatnite Mostove): 4:00 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 5:00 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 6:00 p.m., 6:30 p.m.
Bus line 63 will operate continuously throughout the day, but with a shortened route and will not serve the section between Boyana and Zlatnite Mostove.According to information from mountain hut operators on Vitosha, there is currently not a large number of tourists in the area. Conditions remain severe, with hurricane-force winds and strong gusts. Approximately 50 vehicles with tourists are currently located on the mountain in total, across both directions – Aleko and Zlatnite Mostove.
