More than 23,000 homes across Donegal have been hit by power outages caused by Storm Chandra on Tuesday morning. The townland of Gweedore has been hit worst with more than 15,000 out there overnight.A total of 15,238 houses were without power in the area, along with a further 2,067 in Glenties and 5,375 in the Donegal Town area.559 homes were affected in Ballyshannon with ESB staff out working on each of the issues. Most of the power is being restored and many homes have it back on but there is a warning that further power cuts could happen throughout the day.The ESB also issued a reminder to people not to attempt to clear fallen power lines on their own, with the wires still ‘live and dangerous’ and urged people to call them immediately if they see any down.
