On Tuesday, March 3, 2026, the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) reported responding to a large brush and trash fire along the side of the outer drainage channel of the Mérida Periferico, near kilometer 34, close to the Francisco de Montejo bridge that connects to the Dzitya police station.
Upon arrival, operational personnel observed several fires in different parts of the area. SSP firefighters carried out control, extinguishing, and cooling operations to prevent the fire from spreading, successfully bringing the situation under control.
The SSP urges citizens to avoid actions that could cause fires in areas with dry brush, such as discarding cigarette butts, burning trash, or throwing away bottles, and to immediately report any fires through official channels. In case of emergency, call 9-1-1. For anonymous reporting, 089 is available.
