Several people were overcome by carbon monoxide in their apartment building in the Bronx.
It happened around noon on Wednesday on Grant Avenue between E. 164th Street and E. 165th Street in the Concourse section.
The FDNY chief believes the carbon monoxide leak was caused by a broken boiler.
Seven people were injured, two of them seriously. They were all taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Police and EMS were called for someone having an emergency episode in the building. When they arrived they found high carbon monoxide levels throughout the three-story building.
They searched the building and found and removed all seven people.
The FDNY vented the building and Con Edison shut off the utilities.
Fire officials say the carbon monoxide reading was 480-plus parts per million, which is enough exposure to kill a person in two to three hours.
