Three people are dead and two injured after a tour helicopter crashed off Kalalau Beach on Kauai’s Na Pali Coast this afternoon, county officials said.The Airborne Aviation helicopter was carrying a pilot and four passengers, according to Kauai County.The two injured were transported to the Wilcox Medical Center for treatment, officials said.
Kauai police dispatch received a text-to-911 message at about 3:45 p.m. that a helicopter had crashed into the ocean near Kalalau Beach, county officials said.Multiple agencies responded including personnel from the Kauai Fire Department’s Hanalei station and Rescue 3 aboard an Air 1 helicopter, county Ocean Safety, the U.S. Coast Guard, Kauai Emergency Management Agency, the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources and American Medical Response.Coast Guard Petty Officer Tyler Robertson told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser that the crash occurred about 100 yards offshore of Kalalau Beach.
