Two young women were critically injured after being attacked by a wild boar in a forested area under Khariar Road block in Nuapada district Sunday.
The incident occurred in Shirigidi village under the Kendubahara panchayat.
The injured have been identified as Purnami Majhi, 25, and Samaleswari Raut, 22; both residents of the same village.
The two women had gone together to collect mahua flowers from a nearby field when a wild boar suddenly emerged from the adjacent forest and attacked them.
Hearing their screams, local residents rushed to the spot, chased the animal back into the forest and rescued the injured women.
They were immediately shifted to the district headquarters hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
Their condition is stated to be critical.
