A man has been arrested after a baby died as a result of a dog bite, police said.
Cleveland Police said a three-month-old girl died in the Dormanstown area of Redcar on Thursday.
Armed officers who arrived at a property soon after 1.30pm destroyed a dog they found on the street. A second dog, which was recovered at the address by police, has since been put down.
A woman, 31, was treated in hospital for an arm injury after also being bitten.
The dogs were "deemed not to be a prohibited type of dog", the force said.
"An investigation into the girl's death is ongoing, and at this stage officers are treating it as a result of a dog bite," said police in a statement.
A 45-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control, causing injury resulting in death, has been released on conditional bail after being questioned.
