The West Bandung Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) stated that it has so far received no reports of fatalities in the landslide incident that occurred in the Upper Cisokan Hydropower Plant (PLTA) project area.Head of BPBD West Bandung Asep Sehabbudin said that hide continues to coordinate with Rongga Sub-district authorities regarding the post-landslide conditions.“It is true (the landslide incident occurred), based on information and coordination with the Rongga subdistrict head, there were no fatalities as a result of the incident,” he said here on Friday.He added that BPBD has planned to conduct a direct inspection of the site to ascertain the latest conditions and anticipate potential subsequent risks in the Upper Cisokan hydropower project area.The inspection will be carried out the following day involving relevant parties, including coordination with the subdistrict authorities and project management, to map the impact and ensure there are no further potential hazards at the site.
“BPBD will also immediately deploy personnel tomorrow to inspect the location,” he added.Meanwhile, Rongga Subdistrict Head Asep Badrup explained that heavy rainfall prior to the incident was suspected to have triggered the landslide in the area.“There was a quite heavy rain, which is suspected to have triggered the landslide, the incident occurred at around 2 a.m. We have confirmed that there were no casualties as it happened to be a work holiday,” he said.Badrup explained that the cliff that collapsed is known by local residents as Pasir Datar Hill, located above two water tunnels that will channel water from the turbine to the reservoir.The project itself is located in the border area between West Bandung and Cianjur, West Java, approximately 50-60 kilometers from the district's administrative center in Padalarang.
