Two people were killed and 10 others were injured when gunmen opened fire with rifle-style weapons at an apartment party in Amarillo, Texas, according to police. No arrests have been made. The shooting happened at 1:58 a.m. on Saturday at the Westminster Apartments at 2415 South Coulter Street in Amarillo, a city in the Texas Panhandle, police said. The victims who died were identified as 17-year-old Ezekiel Rudy Almazan and a 16-year-old boy whose name was not released.
Police said the gathering involved juveniles and young adults. The party began at another location before moving to the apartment complex on South Coulter Street.Preliminary information indicated that several people were asked to leave the first location. Those people later followed partygoers to the apartment complex, tried to enter an apartment and opened fire with a rifle-style weapon.
Police later said the incident appeared to be a targeted attack. Investigators believe two suspects were involved, though their ages were not known. The suspects have not been arrested. Police said their relationship to the guests was not clear, but investigators determined that the suspects had an affiliation with the targeted location and were known to one of the occupants at the party.A Glock 9mm handgun was found on a landing outside Apartment 244, and investigators believe multiple weapons were used based on cartridge casings found in an alley south of the apartment complex.Police asked residents in the Belmar area to check doorbell cameras and home surveillance video for anything unusual during the early morning hours.
