A wildfire in Faro is being battled by dozens of firefighters and has already destroyed multiple vehicles, according to emergency services and media reports.
The fire broke out at 11.10am on Wednesday in a scrubland area in Biogal, in the Algarve parish of Montenegro, Faro.
Flames have since advanced closer to residential areas. A civil protection source has said, however, that houses are not yet at risk.
According to SIC Notícias, at least seven vehicles have already been destroyed. The cars are reported to belong to a rent-a-car company.
The fire is currently affecting a stretch of brush and vegetation in the area, with firefighters working to stop it spreading further.
According to the latest update from the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection, 38 personnel and 13 vehicles are battling the flames – although no helicopter has been deployed.
