Fire in built environment

Crews halted a blaze early Friday that started in a hangar at Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
Firefighters arrived at Aero Drive and Afton Road just after 3:45 a.m. in response to a vegetation fire behind a row of airport hangars, department spokeswoman Candace Hadley said.
“When Engine 28 arrived on scene, crews determined the fire was located inside one of the hangars,” Hadley said. “The response was quickly upgraded to a first-alarm and then a second-alarm commercial structure fire.”
Two 11,000-gallon, Jet A fuel tanks nearby posed an immediate threat, she said.
Firefighters had the fire under control by 4:38 a.m. with no reported injuries. Damage was contained primarily to the hangar where the fire is believed to have started, though there was extension into a secondary hangar.
No planes were damaged, Hadley added. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
The department sent more than 20 vehicles to the site, Hadley said.
