Venezuela's death toll from last month's devastating twin earthquakes has risen to 4,734, while 16,740 people have been injured, according to National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez.
Providing an updated assessment of the disaster on Tuesday, Rodriguez said emergency authorities have assisted 128,324 families affected by the powerful earthquakes, News.Az reports, citing Anadolu Agency.
He added that 107 temporary camps have been established to shelter 20,903 people, while 17,907 residents remain without permanent housing as recovery efforts continue.
The earthquakes also caused widespread destruction to infrastructure across affected areas. Rodriguez said 856 buildings were damaged, including 190 structures that completely collapsed.
The twin earthquakes, measuring magnitude 7.2 and 7.5, struck Venezuela on June 24, triggering one of the country's deadliest natural disasters in recent history.
Emergency crews and government agencies continue relief and reconstruction efforts as thousands of survivors remain displaced and communities work to recover from the widespread destruction caused by the powerful back-to-back quakes.
