A seaplane carrying eight people made a hard landing in New York’s East River, snapping a wing strut and partially capsizing the aircraft, officials said. Two passengers suffered minor injuries. The incident happened at about noon Sunday near Brooklyn as the Kodiak 100 seaplane was landing in the river, which separates Manhattan from Brooklyn and Queens, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and fire officials. The plane had left East Hampton at about 11:15 a.m. and was heading to the Skyport seaplane base near East 23rd Street in Manhattan when it struck a wave during landing, according to officials.Fire crews removed all eight people from the aircraft. Two passengers had minor injuries but refused medical attention.Video recorded by a passenger showed the moments before the aircraft hit the water, followed by several loud booms as it made contact with the river. The FAA said the hard landing caused a wing strut to snap. The cause of the incident was not immediately known, and the agency said it will investigate.
