Due to heavy rainfall during the night of July 5–6, a water leak was detected in Building 32 of the Paula Stradiņa Clinical University Hospital, resulting in damage to the hospital’s infrastructure. Thirty-two patients were relocated, the hospital reported on July 6 morning.
The Department of Pulmonary Diseases and Thoracic Surgery (Department 14 on the 6th floor of the building) was the most severely affected, while minor water leaks were detected in some of the departments located on lower floors. The cause of the water leak has been eliminated, and cleanup efforts are currently underway.Technical specialists have assessed the technical condition of the premises and electrical safety and determined that the safety of staff and patients is not at risk.To ensure patient safety, a decision has been made to transfer the 32 patients to other hospital wards.
Due to this incident, the admission of patients for scheduled procedures may be temporarily restricted in certain specialities. The hospital will individually notify patients whose planned hospitalisation may be temporarily postponed of any changes.Medical care at the hospital is proceeding as usual.
