Residents in Asproryrgos, West Attica, were told to evacuate towards the center of the city after a large fire broke out in a factory in the industrial section of the suburb.Emergency alerts were sent via Greece’s 112 system to residents on Megaridos Street, urging them to evacuate via Agiou Georgiou Street, as a thick plume of smoke covered the area.The Fire Department said the blaze started at around 8 a.m. at the premises of a business at the intersection of Megaridos and Chiou streets and has developed a strong pyrothermal load. Media reports indicated the business is a recycling facility.Firefighting forces consisting of 52 firefighters with 10 vehicles are at scene, assisted by a water dropping helicopter has also been mobilized, and the municipality has sent its water tankers.The Fire Department’s arson investigation team has also reached the area to look into the causes of the blaze.
