Oxy Tower, Brussel/Bruxelles (Brussels), Stad Brussel/Ville de Bruxelles
On Tuesday morning, fire broke out on the second floor of the Oxy Tower on the De Brouckèreplein in central Brussels. The fire quickly spread to the lift shaft. Three workers were evacuated, including one person who had sustained burns, Walter Derieuw, spokesperson for the Brussels Fire Brigade, says.
The fire broke out on the second floor of the building and spread. “The fires on both the first and second floors are now under control,” Derieuw was able to say this morning.
At that point fire-fighters were still battling a blaze in the lift shaft. “That fire is currently being extinguished. We are now searching the building thoroughly to see if there are any people still inside so that we can evacuate them,” Derieuw said.
Three workers were evacuated from the building, including one with burns. That person has been taken to hospital.
The cause of the fire is not yet clear.
The OXY building houses apartments, restaurants and a rooftop bar.
