Police are investigating a bomb threat at a hospital in Evanston, Illinois, where a suspicious package with wires protruding from it was found outside the building, according to officials. Surrounding areas were evacuated and a bomb squad was called to the scene.The response began at about 5:01 p.m. Tuesday at Endeavor Health Evanston Hospital, located at 2650 Ridge Avenue in the Chicago suburb following a reported bomb threat, according to the Evanston Police Department.During the response, officers found a suspicious package outside the hospital with wires protruding from it. Officers established a secure perimeter around the hospital and restricted access to the area to protect patients, staff, visitors and nearby residents.The Evanston Fire Department deployed a drone to examine the scene from the air without putting emergency personnel at risk. The Cook County Bomb Squad is also responding to evaluate the package and secure the area.Police did not explain the nature of the reported bomb threat or whether the suspicious package was the threat itself. No information was released about who may have left the package.Authorities urged people to avoid the area and warned of road closures and traffic delays.
