Millions of Aussies across multiple states are being warned to brace for icy conditions over the coming week - as a powerful cold front blasts southern Australia.
The icy conditions are expected to hit Australia’s southeastern states including Victoria, Tasmania, NSW and southern Queensland.
Weatherzone reports a low pressure system is currently sitting at the edge of Antarctica that is expected to track towards the northeast over the next few days.
For these states, wind and rain in increase from Saturday into Sunday with northerly winds strengthening ahead of the cold front.
It is expected that the ice cold conditions will present from late Sunday into Monday, as blustery winds, rain, hail, thunderstorms and snow hit the southeastern states.
The Bureau of Meteorology’s David Crock said that a cloud band is expected to continue streaming over inland Western Australia and parts of South Australia on Friday.
“Behind it comes a strong cold front which will reach southwest WA later in the day before continuing across SA over the course of the weekend,” he said.
“Elsewhere the dry season is in full swing across northern Australia with just a few light showers along parts of the Queensland coast.”
He mentioned that cloud and showers are likely to persist on Friday around the southern states of Australia.
The cold front is likely to cause extreme weather hazards throughout the several states including possible flooding, blizzards and destructive winds.
Residents are being urged to keep up to date with weather warnings to triple zero if you are in a life threatening situation.
