Minister of Agriculture and Food Plamen Abrovski told reporters here on Saturday that the situation regarding the outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) in the region of Varna has been brought under control. At present, there is no evidence that the disease has spread beyond the farm where it was detected, he added.
Abrovski reported that farms near the outbreak were inspected, and no cases of the disease were found there. There is no evidence of infection among wild boars in the area either. A sanitary cordon is being established around the outbreak, and biosecurity measures are stepped up. The Minister emphasized that ASF poses no threat to human health, only to wild and domesticated pigs. Abrovski described the disease as a serious threat from an economic perspective, as there is no treatment for it.
