Thirty-one people have been confirmed dead and 531 others remain missing as of 6 p.m. Friday after a mudslide struck Gyirong Port on the China-Nepal border in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region on Aug. 26, according to the local emergency response and rescue authorities, Xinhua reported.
Rescuers have recovered 987 pieces of personal belongings in the area.
Meanwhile, rescue operations continue in the Himalayas as the death toll from the devastating floods and mudslides along the Nepal–China border has climbed to 1,280, with more than 5,600 people still missing, including at least 550 foreign nationals.
