Nepal Police said the death toll from last month’s devastating mudslide has reached 1,344 after additional remains were recovered by 5.00am local time on Saturday. The latest figures underline the scale of the disaster as security agencies persist with search and rescue work across the worst‑affected districts.
According to police, 4,898 people remain out of contact, while 8,631 individuals have been rescued so far amid continuous operations on the ground. Authorities have intensified efforts to identify victims through DNA analysis. Samples have been collected from 1,260 deceased persons and 972 relatives, bringing the total number of samples gathered to 2,232.
Officials said the priority remains locating the missing and providing timely assistance to survivors scattered across remote communities. Forensic teams and investigators are working alongside local responders to match DNA records and return identified remains to families.
