Volcanic eruption

The National Disaster Management Agency or BNPB stated that there were no casualties or damage due to the spread of volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau until Monday, September 7. There were also no districts or cities that had declared a state of emergency.
BNPB Head, Lieutenant General TNI Suharyanto conveyed this to President Prabowo Subianto through a video conference from the Presidential Palace in Jakarta.
"There were no casualties, Mr. President, no damage, and no one district declared a state of emergency," said Suharyanto.
However, volcanic ash has disrupted people's lives and flights in a number of areas.
BNPB noted that the spread of ash reached at least four provinces, namely DKI Jakarta, West Java, Lampung, and South Sumatra.
Suharyanto said the most noticeable disruption occurred in the aviation sector. A number of airports were forced to close due to the spread of ash.
However, until the report was submitted, there was no follow-up impact in the form of injured residents or damaged facilities.
"This means that below the volcanic ash, people's living conditions are disrupted, but there is no further impact, for example, there are injured or damaged facilities," he said.
BNPB has been gathering heads of regional disaster management agencies at the district, city, and provincial levels since the eruption.
Coordination is also carried out to ensure logistical readiness if the situation worsens.
BNPB previously said that Anak Krakatau's eruptive activity had begun to decline and the possibility of a larger eruption was considered small based on temporary monitoring.
Even so, the government is still preparing anticipatory steps because volcanic ash is still spreading and disrupting mobility in a number of areas.
