Twenty-one Egyptian pilgrims injured when a bus carrying them crashed in Saudi Arabia have been discharged from hospital, Egypt's Tourism and Antiquities Ministry said Sunday.
The bus, carrying pilgrims travelling from Medina to Mecca, was involved in an accident in Al-Jumum governorate, the ministry said in a statement.
Forty-eight Egyptian pilgrims were injured. Twenty-five remain in hospital receiving medical care, while two others died in the crash, according to the statement.
A ministry committee in Mecca is monitoring the injured pilgrims' conditions and the medical care they are receiving, in coordination with Egypt's embassy and consulate in Jeddah and Saudi authorities.
The ministry said the tourism company organising the trip was providing assistance to the injured and the families of those killed, as well as accommodation and meals for the rest of the group.
Tourism Minister Sherif Fathy ordered officials to continue monitoring the situation and provide all necessary support until the injured pilgrims are discharged and the group can complete its journey and return to Egypt safely.
