A man was killed and seven other people were wounded in a shooting at a house party in southeastern Massachusetts, according to officials.
The shooting happened at about 12:35 a.m. Sunday at a home on Weir Street near Sumner Street in Taunton, about 40 miles south of Boston. Police said a large gathering was taking place in the yard when gunfire broke out.
Police and emergency crews identified eight shooting victims, all in their early 20s, and took them to local hospitals. One of the victims, Zirovick Depina, 22, of Brockton, was pronounced dead early Sunday morning, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.
Of the seven survivors, one remains in serious but stable condition. The other six suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Taunton Police, Massachusetts State Police and state police detectives assigned to the district attorney’s office are investigating the shooting as a homicide. No arrests have been announced.
