Around 100 students staying at the PP Savani Girls’ Hostel in the Abrama area of Surat were affected by food poisoning and shifted to different hospitals for treatment.Around 100 students at the PP Savani Girls’ Hostel in Surat’s Abrama area fell ill after having dinner on Saturday night and were shifted to different hospitals in separate vehicles for treatment. After being informed by the hostel administration, several parents also rushed to the hostel.Parents rush to hostel after learning about students’ condition.Parent Jayendra Kumar said his daughter called him on Saturday evening and told him that four to five buses were being used to take students to hospitals after they developed diarrhoea and vomiting.Since his daughter had eaten very little, she did not initially face any major problems. However, she called again on Sunday morning and said she had vomited twice.The father then advised her to return home, saying that studies could wait but her health was more important. He told her that she could receive treatment at a hospital near their home.
Parent alleges poor-quality food despite paying around ₹2 lakh annuallyKumar alleged serious negligence in the hostel’s food arrangements and claimed that the issue had been continuing for a long time. He said students frequently complained that food left over from lunch was served again at dinner and that they sometimes had to manage with plain rice.He also expressed anger over the quality of food despite parents paying around ₹2 lakh in annual fees. “Despite paying such a substantial amount, our children are being served stale and unfit food. This is an open case of negligence by the kitchen department.The people responsible for managing the mess and kitchen should be investigated immediately and strict action should be taken,” he said.
