A fast-moving brush fire erupted in the Santa Clarita area Sunday afternoon, burning at least 475 acres. It is 68% contained.
The Bike Fire was reported around 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Cambria Estates Lane and Ravenhill Road, near Sand Canyon and Placerita Canyon roads, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The fire was initially pegged at about 5 acres, but that number grew fast.
The fire initially prompted evacuation orders and warnings, but they have since been downgraded to an advisory.
Authorities said the blaze burned "with erratic fire behavior." By 4 p.m., officials said the fire had grown to 275 acres. Officials later said that accurate mapping reduced the fire acreage to 172 acres.
Just before 8:30 p.m. the fire had grown to 475 acres and remained 68% contained.
Two air tankers and two type 1 helicopters were being mobilized to assist in the firefighting effort
The area experienced two other wildfires in the last week. The Bouquet Fire was reported Oct. 3 near Bouquet Canyon Road in the Angeles National Forest northeast of Santa Clarita. It was 83% contained as of Sunday after burning 1,048 acres.
The Danny Fire was reported on Oct. 8 about 2 miles south of Gorman, though forward progression was stopped quickly and that fire was 96% contained at 150 acres.
