Security forces killed five terrorists and injured four others during an operation in Balochistan’s Washuk district, security sources said on Wednesday. The operation took place in the Palantak area, where forces targeted militant hideouts using modern weapons. According to the sources, the action aimed to eliminate militants involved in criminal activities and spreading fear among local residents.
Security sources said the killed militants had been involved in looting people and creating panic in the area. Forces recovered weapons and ammunition from the bodies of those killed. However, officials have not publicly disclosed the identities of the militants or provided further details about the injured suspects. The operation forms part of broader counterterrorism efforts across Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Earlier, on October 7, security forces killed five militants during an operation against Fitna al-Hindustan in Balochistan’s Mastung district, according to security sources. Weapons and ammunition were also recovered during that operation. These actions reflect the continuing security challenges facing the province as authorities intensify operations against armed groups.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has experienced a rise in militant attacks, particularly in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, militants carried out 225 attacks nationwide in September 2026. This marked a 13 per cent increase from the 199 attacks recorded in August. The institute said attacks had risen for the third consecutive month, reaching their highest monthly level in 12 years.
Pakistan has repeatedly urged Afghanistan’s Taliban authorities to prevent militant groups from using Afghan territory to launch attacks inside Pakistan. Islamabad maintains that Kabul has not taken sufficient action against groups targeting Pakistani security forces and civilians. However, the two sides have yet to resolve their differences despite several rounds of talks. The issue of militant groups operating from Afghan territory remains a major source of tension between the neighbouring countries.
