Fire in built environment

One person has died following a fire in a house in Ettelbrück in the north of Luxembourg, the emergency services said on Wednesday morning.
Some 50 firefighters were deployed to Ettelbrück town centre shortly before 02:20 on Wednesday to tackle a fire in a row of houses.
“A bedridden person trapped inside the building was evacuated by firefighters wearing self-contained breathing apparatus and was quickly attended to by Samu medical teams,” the statement from the emergency services (CGDIS) said.
“Despite all efforts, the individual died from their injuries,” the statement continued, without identifying the individual.
Three other people were also assessed at the site of the emergency, with the psychological support team called in to assist relatives and witnesses.
Firefighting operations in Ettelbrück continued until the morning. The emergency services called on the local population to keep their windows closed and avoid the area.
Over the course of Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning firefighting services in the Grand Duchy were called to tackle two other major fires.
At around 03:00 on Wednesday a fire broke out in a terraced house in Differdange in the south.
“This incident mobilised five fire and rescue centres as well as the drone unit from the Operational Technological Support Group (Gato) to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent homes,” the CGDIS said.
“No injuries were reported during this operation, which involved approximately 40 firefighters; however, eight people will need to be rehoused by the municipality,” the emergency services added.
Shortly after 19:00 on Tuesday, 30 firefighters tackled a blaze at a detached house in Herborn in Echternach. No casualties were reported.
