A brush fire broke out in Brentwood overnight as the region braces for a Santa Ana wind event that's prompting a Red Flag Warning and critical fire danger.
The fire was reported around 2:50 a.m. in the area of Vandergrift Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Crews on the ground and in the air tackled the flames, which burned around 1.5 acres before they stopped the fire's forward progress. No structures were damaged and no injuries were reported.
Meanwhile, the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Although firefighters managed to gain control of the fire in just an hour, the blaze erupted as many parts of the region prepare for the return of warm temperatures and Santa Ana winds. That combination is triggering a Red Flag Warning due to the elevated risk of fires.
Wind gusts could reach 40-70 mph in wind-prone areas across the region. Windy conditions will start to ramp up Thursday, but the strongest winds are expected on Friday.
