In the morning of October 13, 2026, U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Sector New York contacted the NOAA Scientific Support Coordinator (SSC) regarding an estimated 600-gallon release of lube oil into the East River. The release was secured and boom deployed; however, the boom came apart in the recent storm. The USCG requested a trajectory and fate analysis from NOAA, which was provided. The USCG did not see additional sheening post-event, so no additional requests were made.
