More than 1,400 people have been displaced in Sudan’s North Kordofan state following a deadly attack blamed on the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), according to the UN migration agency.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said Thursday that around 1,430 people fled the Al-Jamama area in Sudri locality, west of Bara, after the security situation deteriorated. The agency’s Displacement Tracking Matrix recorded the new displacement on Wednesday, with families moving to other parts of Sudri locality and neighboring areas of Bara locality.“The security situation remains tense and highly fluid,” the IOM said, adding that it is closely monitoring developments. The latest displacement came one day after the Sudan Doctors Network reported that nine civilians, including two women, were killed and 14 others wounded in an RSF attack on Al-Jamama.The local medical group said residents were accused of cooperating with the Sudanese army before the assault. It also reported extensive looting of the local market, a health center and other civilian property, which contributed to the mass flight from the area. The RSF has not publicly responded to the allegations.North, West and South Kordofan have seen sustained fighting between Sudan’s army and the RSF since October 2025, adding to the devastation caused by the country’s wider conflict.Sudan has been at war since April 2023, when fighting erupted between the army and the RSF. The conflict has killed tens of thousands of people and displaced nearly 13 million, according to UN and international estimates.
