At least two people were killed and several others wounded in an Israeli air strike on the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis, according to reports from health officials, as the humanitarian situation in the enclave continues to deteriorate.
According to Al Jazeera, the strike took place on Sunday and injured several civilians, including a child, who were transferred to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The attack comes as regional tensions remain high following recent Israeli evacuation warnings in southern Lebanon and continued military operations against Hezbollah. Israeli forces have ordered residents of multiple towns in southern Lebanon to leave their homes, raising fears of a broader escalation beyond Gaza.
The latest developments also come amid growing international concern over the humanitarian consequences of the conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon. Aid agencies have repeatedly warned that civilians are bearing the brunt of ongoing hostilities, while access to food, medical supplies and essential services remains severely restricted.
Residents of Gaza continue to face acute shortages of food, clean water, electricity and healthcare services. Humanitarian organisations have warned that the territory is experiencing one of the world’s most severe humanitarian emergencies.
Medical facilities across Gaza remain under intense pressure as hospitals struggle with shortages of medicine, fuel, medical equipment and staff. Health workers say the continued influx of casualties has further strained an already overwhelmed healthcare system.
The Palestinian Health Ministry has previously said that more than 72,000 people have been killed since the start of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, while tens of thousands of others have been wounded.
Israel says its operations are aimed at targeting militant groups operating in Gaza, while Palestinian officials and humanitarian organisations have repeatedly raised concerns about the impact of the fighting on civilians.
Efforts by regional and international mediators to secure a lasting ceasefire have so far failed to produce a breakthrough, with violence continuing across multiple fronts in the Middle East.
