An Alaska Airlines Boeing 737-MAX 9 aircraft had to make an emergency landing Sunday morning at Portland International Airport.
The flight, Alaska Airlines Flight 300, was scheduled to go to Orlando from Portland when just after takeoff, the crew reported a bird strike.
“Our pilots are trained for these situations and landed the aircraft safely without any issue,” Alaska Airlines told KATU News. “The aircraft returned to the gate and guests were rebooked to Orlando. The aircraft has been removed from service for inspection.”
According to the flight tracking website FlightRadar24.com, the plane was in the air for about 20 minutes before it landed back at PDX at about 8:10 a.m.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration wildlife strike database, there have been 33 reported bird strikes at PDX in 2024 so far.
