More than 3,000 gallons of sewage spilled into Raleigh surface waters Wednesday.
At 2:21 p.m., Raleigh Water staff were notified of a sanitary sewer overflow near 2600 Bristol Place. The overflow was under control by 4:16 p.m., officials said.
The overflow discharged an estimated 3,200 gallons of untreated wastewater into the state's surface waters. There were no visible signs of fish kill or vegetative damage, officials said.
Remember:
- Only water, human waste and toilet tissue should be flushed. Keep FOG (Fats, Oils, and Grease) out of the flow. All other items can damage the sewer system and are prohibited.
- Residents who experience excessive sewer smells or see sewage spilling from manholes or pipes should call 919-996-3245 to report the issue immediately.
