A tragic accident occurred early on January 1, when a YUTONG Express passenger bus traveling from Nay Pyi Taw to Yangon crashed on the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway.
At approximately 3:30 am., the driver reportedly fell asleep at the wheel, causing the bus to veer off the road and collide with a roadside barrier. The crash resulted in the death of one female passenger and left 33 others injured.
Among the injured were 10 men, 21 women, and two children. All victims were swiftly transported to Phyu Township Hospital by ambulances from the Highway Fire Department, the Red Cross Society, and EMS 192.
The authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
