A chemical spill in South Perth emitting potentially harmful fumes, has prompted a warning to avoid the area.
The Hazmat alert, issued by Department of Fire and Emergency Services on Thursday afternoon, says “unknown chemicals” have been spilled at the back of a commercial complex between Mill Point Road and Canning Highway, opposite Gwenyfred Road.
ChemCentre personnel and firefighters have responded to the potentially dangerous spill, which was reported at 1.07pm.
DFES has urged people in the area to remain indoors and away from the smoke or fumes, with their doors and windows shut.
Nearby residents should also switch off their air conditioners.
People are asked to stay away from the area and motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible and to reduce speed.
