A fire erupted at Mandarin Court on Argyle Street in Ho Man Tin at 9.55pm today. The blaze started in a flat where a sofa ignited, producing thick smoke. Firefighters quickly dispatched a smoke helmet team and set up a ladder to combat the flames.
Approximately 20 residents were able to evacuate independently, but at least three individuals experienced smoke inhalation and required treatment with oxygen on-site. One man was treated for wounds to his hand and neck, which were bandaged.
Witnesses reported substantial smoke billowing from the unit, with the building’s exterior blackened by soot. Flames were seen leaping from the windows as firefighters forced entry to rescue two dogs from the adjoining flat. The fire was eventually extinguished by 10.39pm, and an investigation into the cause is currently underway.
The incident occurred in a seventh-floor unit, and images provided by residents showed intense flames and fireballs erupting from the flat. In response to the emergency, at least seven ambulances were deployed to the scene. Some residents, who feared for their safety, were seen wearing sleepwear as they fled to the ground floor for refuge.
