The The Ministry of Interior has released the latest figures on the effects of Thai aggression on Cambodia.
The Ministry outlined the situation in a statement entitled ‘On the Impacts on Civilian Areas and Cambodian Civilians Resulting from Acts of Aggression by the Thai Side Against Cambodia’s Sovereign Territory from 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM on 24 December 2025′
It states that from 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM on 24 December 2025, acts of aggression by the Thai Government and Military against Cambodia’s sovereign territory, particularly the firing and dropping of various types of munitions into civilian areas, have resulted in the following severe impacts:
1. Deaths and Injuries: One civilian was injured in Banteay Meanchey Province. In total, since 7 December, there have been 30 civilian deaths (including 9 deaths among displaced civilians in displacement camps in Siem Reap Province) and 87 injuries.
2. Displacement of Civilians: Since 7 December, there is a total of 636,536 displaced persons, including 331,707 women and 202,455 children. These figures may continue to change.
3. Destruction of Civilian Physical Infrastructure: Two civilian houses in Battambang Province were damaged. Therefore, since 7 December, damage to private property includes 125 civilian houses, 6 privately owned buildings, 5 apartments/hotels, one gas station, 27 cars, one motorcycle, one cassava purchasing warehouse, one storage warehouse, and 2 cell towers. Damage to public property includes 6 schools, 2 health centers, 12 government office buildings, 5 pagodas, one almsgiving hall, one vehicle, a number of ancient temples, 5 bridges, one market, and 2 road sections.
As of now, more than half a million Cambodian people, of whom over 50% are women and more than 30% are children, are suffering severe hardship after being forced to leave their homes and schools to flee gunfire, light and heavy artillery shelling, and aerial bombings by Thailand’s fighter jets, which have repeatedly destroyed their homes, schools and communities.
In particular, in Banan District, Battambang Province, on this day, hundreds of young children and students rushed to flee from their schools, with some becoming separated from their parents, after being gripped by fear caused by Thai aircraft dropping bombs.
For this reason, we continue to call upon foreign friends, particularly the United States of America, China, Malaysia, and ASEAN friends, to remain actively engaged in supporting efforts toward permanent de-escalation and the achievement of lasting peace, which reflects Cambodia’s long-standing aspiration.
As explicitly stated by Cambodia at the Special ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, Cambodia seeks to resolve disputes, including border delimitation, through peaceful means, in accordance with international law, the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), as well as existing treaties and mechanisms.
The Ministry of Interior continues to note, with profound pride, that all Cambodian citizens are strengthening their unity and standing shoulder to shoulder in support of the national defense strategy led by Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet. This powerful unity has provided tremendous strength to the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces under the Ministry of National Defence and the Border Protection Police under the Ministry of Interior, who are courageously defending the integrity of the national territory. We respectfully call upon our fellow citizens to continue strengthening this single Khmer spirit of unity and to uphold it permanently.
